Blister packing is the most common primary packing type for tablets and capsules. Different blister packaging materials are used for different products. Those who pay attention to medicine packing might notice that most medicines use aluminum plastic packing, while some others use alu-alu packing.
What is Alu-Alu Packing
Both sides of the alu-alu packing blister are aluminum foil, which is also called cold-forming foil. Such type of foil is with advantages such as high-barrier, high adaptability, easy forming, good light barrier, good extension, and easy to be sealed with aluminum blister foil into full aluminum packaging.

Cold-forming foil is a combination of aluminum foil outside and polymeric films inside. It is suitable for blister packaging of both tablets and capsules which might be sensitive to moisture, oxygen, light, and chemicals. One common product that uses Alu-Alu Packing is ciprofloxacin tablets 500mg and 750mg.
What is Aluminum-Plastic Packing
Aluminum-Plastic Packing is the most common packing for tablet and capsule packages. For this type of pack, one side is aluminum foil, and the other side is plastic PVC foil(or PVC/PVDC, PVC/PE/PVDC).

Most tablets and capsules, like Paracetamol tablets 500mg, Amoxicillin Capsules 500mg, and Ferrous + Folic Acid tablets are with this type of packing.
Different use of Alu-Alu Packing and Aluminum-Plastic Packing
Aluminum-Plastic Packing is at a lower cost, while Alu-Alu Packing is a bit higher.
The size of the Alu-Alu Pack blister is larger than Aluminum-Plastic Pack. So for the same product, more can be loaded in one container if packed in Aluminum-Plastic Pack.
Alu-Alu Packing is usually used when the medicines are ultraviolet light sensitive, with strong hygroscopicity, require heat and cold resistance, or need packaging quality improvement.
